Okay, so, let me tell you about this mess I got into with Madden 23. I’m not some pro gamer, just a guy who likes to throw the virtual pigskin around after work, you know? But this issue I ran into was driving me up a wall. It’s about the kicking meter, or should I say, the disappearing kicking meter.
I started up the game, like any other day, ready to dominate. I was playing a pretty intense match, neck and neck. I scored some touchdowns, my opponent scored some touchdowns, it was a real nail-biter. I was winning by 3 with only 1 minute left on the clock.
Then it happened. I was about to kick off after scoring a touchdown. I lined up my kicker, and the power bar shows up, as usual, but when I pressed the button to set the power and go for the accuracy portion of the meter, the whole thing just…vanished. Poof. Gone. Just a very short grey accuracy line instead of the line. No meter, no nothing.
I tried again, thinking it was a one-time thing. Nope. Still gone. I ended up kicking out of bounds because I had no idea where the sweet spot was. It happened again on the next kickoff, too. Can you believe it? The frustration was real.
So, I paused the game and started messing around with the settings. I’m not the most tech-savvy guy, but I know my way around a menu or two. I switched the “antialiasing” setting in the graphics options to “Off,” and guess what? The kicking meter came back. It was like magic. Later, I switched it to “FXAA,” and that worked, too. Weird, right?
I jumped online to see if anyone else had this problem. Turns out, I wasn’t alone. Found a bunch of posts on forums with people complaining about the same thing. Some folks were saying it’s a glitch, some were saying it’s related to the “momentum” feature in the game. Someone said it started happening to them randomly, home or away, momentum or not.
It seems like this has been an issue for a while now. I even saw some posts saying that the Madden 24 update fixed this, but clearly, the problem is still around in Madden 23. It is really a big problem for a AAA game.
Anyway, I figured I’d share my little adventure in case anyone else is pulling their hair out over this. If your kicking meter goes AWOL in Madden 23, try messing with the antialiasing settings. It might just save you from a few out-of-bounds kicks and a whole lot of frustration.
