Alright, let’s talk about my recent grind to get the Thurvokun set in ESO. It’s a monster helm set, so you know it’s gonna be a bit of a pain to get, but I wanted it for my tank build, and by the gods, I was gonna get it.
First, What Even Is Thurvokun?
It’s a monster set that drops in the Fang Lair dungeon. It comes in light, medium, and heavy, so no matter what your build is, there’s a version for you. The cool part is that it debuffs enemies with Major and Minor Defile, reducing their healing received. Plus, it does disease damage. Pretty neat for a tank, right?

Getting the Helm
Monster helms only drop from the final boss of a dungeon, and in this case, it was that pesky final boss in Fang Lair. So, I gathered a group of my usual dungeon buddies – a couple of DPS beasts and a healer who’s practically a saint – and we dove in. We went and run that dungeon multiple times. Many, many times. Let me tell you, Fang Lair is no joke. It’s a Dragon Bones DLC dungeon, and it’s considered one of the harder ones. I can vouch for that. We had to be on our toes the whole time, dodging, blocking, and burning through those bosses.
After many runs, and I mean many, that glorious helm finally dropped. I felt like I’d won the lottery. Even better, it dropped with the right trait for my build. Talk about a lucky day!
Getting the Shoulders
Now, getting the helm is only half the battle. You also need the shoulders to complete the set. And where do you get those? From the Undaunted chest. If you’re not familiar, the Undaunted are a guild that specializes in dungeon delving. They have these chests that contain shoulder pieces of various monster sets. You need Undaunted keys to open them, and you get those keys by completing Undaunted pledges, which are daily quests. These chests offer items randomly. So this part really is a gamble.
So, I started grinding those daily pledges. Every day, I’d log in, grab the pledges, and run the required dungeons. It was a routine, but I was determined. I saved up a bunch of keys, just waiting for the right day.
Finally, after a few weeks, I had a decent stash of keys. I went to the chest, took a deep breath, and started opening them. The first few tries were a bust. A lot of duplicate drops. But then, on what felt like my hundredth try, there it was – the Thurvokun shoulders. And, just like the helm, it was the perfect trait! I couldn’t believe my luck.
The Result
With both the helm and shoulders in my inventory, I was ready to rock this set. I equipped them, and let me tell you, it was worth all the effort. My tanking felt so much smoother. The debuffs from Thurvokun made a noticeable difference, especially in fights with healer-type enemies.
So, yeah, that’s my story of getting the Thurvokun set. It was a grind, no doubt, but it was also a lot of fun. Teaming up with friends, tackling tough dungeons, and finally getting that perfect drop – that’s what makes ESO so great. If you’re thinking about getting this set, I say go for it. Just be prepared for a bit of a challenge. But trust me, it’s worth it in the end.
