Alright, let’s talk about this whole Heatran thing in Pokémon Go. I’ve been on this for a while, so I figured I’d share my experience and maybe help some folks out.
Getting Started with the Galarian Expedition: Taken Over Event
So, first off, this whole thing kicked off with the “Galarian Expedition: Taken Over” event. I jumped in right when it started on Tuesday, October 8th. Remember, it ran until Friday, October 11th, 2024. I made sure to log in every day because, you know, gotta catch ’em all, right? This event was all about Team GO Rocket, and I was pumped.

Facing Off Against Team GO Rocket
During the event, I was hitting up every PokeStop I could find. Team GO Rocket was everywhere, and those hot air balloons were popping up like crazy. I battled a ton of grunts, which was pretty fun. Each battle got me closer to getting that Super Rocket Radar. It was a grind, but hey, that’s the game.
The Quest for Shadow Heatran
The main goal here was to rescue Shadow Heatran from Giovanni. I worked through this Special Research quest line, which was pretty cool. It wasn’t just battling; there were some story elements that made it interesting. I kept at it, completing each task they threw at me. A lot of these quests came from the event called “Max Out”, which ended at 9:59am local time on 3rd December 2024.
Getting the Super Rocket Radar
Now, to get to Giovanni, I needed that Super Rocket Radar. I found out that you can get it from Special Research during Rocket Takeover events. These events happen every 3-6 months, so I knew I had to make this one count. I pushed through all the research tasks until finally, I had the radar.
The Showdown with Giovanni
Once I had the Super Rocket Radar, it was time to find Giovanni. I tracked him down, and let me tell you, it was a tough battle. But I was prepared. I used my best Pokémon, and after a few tries, I finally beat him. And there it was—Shadow Heatran. I caught it, and man, it felt good.
Catching Heatran in Raids
But that wasn’t the end of it. Heatran also returned to raids from February 22nd to February 23rd, 2024. I made sure to be there at 10 am local time when it started. I joined a bunch of Raid Hours, especially on February 22nd from 6 pm to 7 pm. After a few raids, I managed to defeat and catch a Heatran with Magma Storm. That was a sweet bonus.
Reflecting on the Experience
Looking back, it was a wild ride. From battling Team GO Rocket grunts to finally facing Giovanni and catching Shadow Heatran, it was a lot of work. But it was totally worth it. Plus, getting that Heatran with Magma Storm from the raids was the cherry on top.
- Start with the “Galarian Expedition: Taken Over” event.
- Battle Team GO Rocket at PokeStops and in hot air balloons.
- Complete the Special Research quest line.
- Get the Super Rocket Radar during Rocket Takeover events.
- Defeat Giovanni to rescue Shadow Heatran.
- Participate in Heatran raids to catch one with Magma Storm.
So yeah, that’s my story. Hope it helps some of you out there. Keep grinding, and good luck catching ’em all!
